Toward a Closer Walk

Education is the big word today. With COVID-19 still impacting us, what are we going to do?

Proverbs 22:6 says in the context of integrity and maintaining a good name: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” (NKJV)

Ellen White in her book Education p. 131 stated that: “Our ideas of education take too narrow and too low a range. There is need of a broader scope, a higher aim. True education means more than the pursual of a certain course of study. It means more than a preparation for the life that now is. It has to do with the whole being, and with the whole period of existence possible to man. It is the harmonious development of the physical, the mental, and the spiritual powers. It prepares the student for the joy of service in this world and for the higher joy of wider service in the world to come.”

Both of these sources set forth a challenge to us as parents, grandparents, and teachers. Our little ones are more precious in our hearts than our feeble words can express.

As we consider the education of our children this fall, may our greatest effort be focused on consistency in the foundational elements of the development of our children. Choose what you determine to be the absolute best for their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual development.

There are a wide range of options available today: public, charter, schools of science and technology, private, virtual, correspondence, Christian schools of different faiths, home school, and Scenic Hills Adventist Christian Academy.

As you choose which school your child will attend this fall, chose one that agrees most with your spiritual undergirding.

Father God, there is nothing more important than our children and their relationship with you. We are responsible for choosing their place of training. Please help us as parents, grandparents, and church family to encourage the very best for our children. Help us to determine a place to send them where they will find good scholastics and teaching that is consistent with your WORD. In Jesus name, amen
