Recounting ballots, foreign ballot processing, voting fraud, and suggested unclear outcomes from the November 3, 2020 US election - did we ever think that things would be this way? It seems that our lives are on hold and that our world is in a mess.
It is interesting that the Bible talks about this very type of thing – chaos. In the prophetic book of Daniel, we find recorded an awesome encounter between Daniel, the captive Israelite from Jerusalem, and Nebuchadnezzar, the Babylonian king who had conquered Jerusalem and taken him and many others captive. Nebuchadnezzar had a dream which he couldn’t remember and yet sensed it was of huge importance. Nebuchadnezzar’s wise men were called in to tell him the dream and its interpretation, but they were not able to do so and were subsequently condemned to a horrific death. Daniel and his three friends found out about it when Arioch came to their room to take them out for execution. Daniel was granted the opportunity to talk with the king and ask for time, assuring him that the God of heaven would reveal the dream and its interpretation. Daniel and his 3 Israelite friends prayed, and Daniel was given the dream and its interpretation in a “night vision.” He told Nebuchadnezzar that the forgotten dream was about an image whose body parts were made up of gold, silver, bronze, iron, and iron and clay. Nebuchadnezzar was then told that the body parts (each made of metals with descending value) and the fragile feet, represented 4 kingdoms that would rule sequentially by conquering each in turn over many years to come. These kingdoms would be followed by a disunited group of kingdoms or nations. The entire image would then be smashed by a great stone, representing the kingdom of God, that would cut itself out of the mountain and strike the image at its feet, pulverizing it. The wind, then, would blow the dust of it into oblivion. This great stone, God’s kingdom, would become a great mountain filling the whole earth. You can read all about this in Daniel chapter 2.
Why have I shared this? Because the final outcome of things as we know it will be God’s mighty earth-filling mountain/kingdom that will smash into oblivion all human devised things and the setting up of His perfect kingdom built upon His perfect character. We don’t see any possible solution to the turmoil in government and society today. However, in the end, God wins. The sequential rise and fall of the four mighty kingdoms and then the division into smaller disunited countries show us that the dream of Nebuchadnezzar, of nearly 2600 years ago, is true. God really is in control. When all is said and done, God’s kingdom will rise and will never be destroyed. I look forward to being a part of that great eternal kingdom and pray that you want to be a part of it too.
Dear God, thank you for the assurance that you are in control of what is happening in our chaotic world today. Please keep us safe. Help us to be surrendered to you, accept Your gift of salvation, and share with others the joy of life as a Christian and encourage them to accept Your wonderful gift of eternal life. The promise of Your Second Coming is our only hope. Come quickly Lord Jesus. In Jesus name, amen.
