Toward a Closer Walk

COVID-19, riots, crime, and fires leave us with a desire for something better. There has to be a solution to all this mayhem around us. I believe the answer to all this is Jesus’ prophesied soon coming (Rev 22:12). It is interesting that there have been a number of times in our world’s history that people have longed for something better. It resulted in major spiritual awakenings.

Awakenings seem to come when people realize that what they are now experiencing is not right or is not enough. There are many such times in our history. The following are just a few: the Life and Ministry of Jesus (salvation better understood), the Protestant Reformation (the just shall live by faith), and the Great Awakening of the 1800’s (the Sabbath, Christ our mediator) probably stand out the most in my thinking.

During these times, the norms of the day were challenged, and clergy authority was not considered enough for those thirsting after God’s ways. Today we face a similar dilemma. People are seeing a lack of spiritual focus in the world, rioting in the streets, and fear for life because of a pandemic gone crazy. And these things are all occurring during a major election year.

I thank God for His promises:

  1. God cares for the affairs of this world. In talking with Nebuchadnezzar, the prophet Daniel said:

            Blessed be the name of God forever and ever,

            For wisdom and might are His.

            And He changes the times and the seasons;

            He removes kings and raises up kings;

            He gives wisdom to the wise

            And knowledge to those who have understanding.”

            Daniel 2:20-21

  1. God cares for my life and yours.

            1 Peter 5:7 God tells us that we should be,

            “…casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”

I believe that now is a perfect time for another great awakening in our world. Our hope must be in Jesus. Jesus is the answer.

  • We must be awakened to our own personal need for Jesus in our lives.
  • We must be awakened to the urgency to share our hope in Him with those around us.
  • We must be awakened to the need in our nation for all of us to focus on Godly principles.
  • We must be awakened to the need to bring the Gospel to the world now while there is time.

The promise is there. Jesus is coming soon. He will take us home to be with Him forever (John 14:1-3). What a blessing that promise is.

Lord God, wake me – I need a spiritual awakening. Thank you for your answer to the problems of this world. Thank you for the promise of your soon coming. Come quickly Lord Jesus. In Jesus Name, Amen.

God Bless you each,
Pastor Bill Lindeman
